Build A Bear Winner

Ok, I swear this wasn’t fixed, but the winner is Jen at Big Binder! I assigned each of the commentors a number and drew them out of the hat. She was number 10. Yeah.
Ok, any advice on how to choose a winner from like 150 comments? I don’t really want to number 150 little pieces of paper and then draw one out of a hat.

This Blog Thing is Finally Paying Off!

Yesterday Piper Ann and I were invited to Build-A-Bear Workshop along with other St. Louis bloggers for a High School Musical party. She doesn’t know much about it, but would never turn down a free bear!

Here is Piper Ann wondering what the heck we’re doing here.

This is Piper Ann’s cousin L.

We got to meet Maxine Clark, the CEO of Build-A-Bear. She gave us each a signed book.

I tried to score one to give away, but she didn’t bring enough. She is so sweet and really amazing.

Piper Ann is getting her bear stuffed.

Here is a link for more pictures of the event. Image 6786 is a picture of Maxine and I. I’m 5’10” and I had heels on.

So, tomorrow is my 1 year blogaversary. So in honor of that, I’m giving away a $25 Build-A-Bear gift certificate. Leave me a comment so I can enter you in the giveaway. I will draw the winner on Thursday at 2 pm. Good Luck!

If you link to this post, I will enter your name in twice.

Fieldtrip Day

Today Nathan’s class went to the pumpkin patch for a fieldtrip. I couldn’t chaperone, because the little kids couldn’t come.

So, to make up for my absence I had to make him a really special lunch.

I cut the bread with my pumpkin cookie cutter and smeared on some apple butter. He’s decided he doesn’t like cream cheese with his apple butter. He does like peanut butter with it, but his class is peanut free. I swiped the raisins through cream cheese and made a face with them.

I added an apple and apple juice, along with some Trader Joes cheez-its, string cheese, and a cookie.

It had to be in a brown bag, so I embellished. I wrote his name on the stem.

I’m sure my days are numbered getting away with this stuff, because it will be so not cool!

The little kids at home got these…

I just cut one piece of bread each and topped it with American cheese. The raisins were stuck on with peanut butter.

They got to have these to drink. They are made with inverted cane sugar instead of HFCS. I’ll just let you know now that the werewolf candy corn flavor is disgusting. The kids and I tricked Ricardo into trying it.

Things I Love Thursday-Cherry Limeade

Yes, another alcoholic drink. What can I say, I have 3 kids and no social life.

If you mix black cherry vodka with limeade and a splash of seltzer it tastes like cherry limeade.

Works for me Wednesday-Cutting Corn off the Cob

I think this is a tip from Martha Stewart. At first I thought it was pretty gimmicky, but it truly works well!

Use a bundt pan, and put one end of the cob in the hole. The kernels fall right into the pan, and not on the floor!

I was using this corn to make corn chowder. It wasn’t that great since its past its season.

My second tip is when you make corn during its prime, make a couple extra pieces. Cut the kernels off and freeze them. I keep a big container in the freezer and add to it every time we have corn. It makes for much better corn chowder in the fall.

Of course I didn’t do that this summer, because Oliver loves corn and ate all the extras!

Hobby Hump Day-Reusable Grocery Bag

I made this bag out of some pieces of fabric I had. I say pieces and not scraps, because they have to be pretty big.

I love this fabric. It was part of my souvenir from Florida.

Here is the back. I have my little tag sewn on! The sides and bottom are orange.

Here’s what it looks like folded. I didn’t have enough of any one fabric to make long enough handles, so I pieced them all together.

Here’s a closeup of the flower on front. Its a little frilly for the grocery store, but I love it.

I’m thinking this along with some of these would make great gifts!
Feel free to play along.

My New Bag

So, apparently I’ve given up blogging on weekends. Sorry.

My sister visited this weekend, so I could upholster a chair she got. I wish I had a picture of the before and after, but I don’t. I think it turned out really good, especially since I got really sick.

She’s picked up the sewing bug and made me this bag as payment for the chair.

Isn’t it adorable. Its lining is red with white polka dots. She’s going to make these for the craft bazaar I’m doing at Parkway United Church of Christ on November 19 and 20th.
I hope to have my etsy store up this weekend, so stay tuned for some giveaways for my grand opening and blog anniversary.
