Teeth are usually one of the first things I notice on someone. I’m usually not bothered by them as long as they’re healthy and stable. We had a waitress once who’s front teeth were completely rotten. I could barely eat (ooh, new weightloss plan!).
Last week Ricardo left me at home for three days with a child who had a tooth hanging by a thread.
It finally came to the point that it needed to come out. Nathan didn’t want me to go near it, but both of us needed to be brave.
I grabbed a hold of the tooth and told him to take a deep breath and at the count of three to exhale. As he exhaled I twisted and the tooth flew out almost going down my shirt.
I was so proud of both of us!
Unfortunately, I might have just become the family tooth puller!

Here he is with his big gap!

Pinewood Derby

This past Saturday Nathan competed in his school’s Pinewood Derby for cub scouts.
He got first place within his den and 3rd place overall. He’ll be going to districts in March.
His car was about 1/4 of an ounce under weight, so Ricardo’s hoping that by adding that back in his car will be even faster. He missed first place by 13 thousandths of a second.

Here’s Ricardo sawing away at the block of wood.
(He’s thrilled to be having his picture taken during this very frustrating moment!)

Nathan’s helping to polish the axles.

Ricardo is installing the wheels.

Anxiously awaiting his turn.

The first race. They raced 4 times each and the best time was taken.

Standing with the other placeholders.

He took home a lot of hardware that he’s very proud of!

Yesterday I was working in my newly organized sewing room (I had no before pictures, so I thought after pictures would be pointless) when Nathan came down and asked me for a cardboard box. I had just gotten a steal on some boots from DSW, so I gave him the box. He colored it and told me where to cut the holes.

We made a helmet from a beer box, because every spaceship driver needs a helmet.

He is going to kill me when I bust out these pics when he’s 16, but they’re hilarious.

dscn1617He played in the front yard for hours wearing this get up. That kid has one heck of an imagination!

He says he’s going to wear this on Halloween along with the Boba Fett costume his grandpa already bought for him. We’ll see!

This leads me to my first poll…

Fill In the Blanks

Nathan was asked to fill in the blanks for a worksheet at school.

LigerHis handwriting is atrocious, but it says I’m as “wild” as a “Liger.” Hopefully his teacher is up on her pop culture! Hilarious!

Badge of Honor

A badge of honor for motherhood and childhood is a trip to the ER for stitches.

Nathan was at the pool last week with a friend. He’s gotten so brave at the pool these last weeks. He was doing some “twirl” jumps into the deep end, when he caught his chin on the side.

He split the darn thing wide open.

Showing off his Slurpee cup.

I left the bandaid on for the pictures. I didn’t want to gross anyone out.

I’m pretty squeamish when it comes to that stuff. I had to be brave for him while they were stitching him up. I held his hands, but he didn’t know I wasn’t watching!

Twas a Few Weeks Before Christmas

The child was nestled all snug in his bed, while visions of Toys R Us danced in his head.

This is My House

We had Nathan’s conference this morning. His teacher showed us a packet of pictures that he drew about himself. This is his portrayal of our house…

Great. Our house isn’t that messy and chaotic!

First Race

Last night Ricardo and Nathan went to Nathan’s first NASCAR Race.
Here is a picture.

I’m glad that’s something that he and his dad can enjoy together, alone. I’ll just stay home and watch Sex and the City on Demand.
