Eloise at the Plaza Birthday
We recently celebrated Piper Ann’s 6th birthday and we decided on an Eloise at the Plaza theme for her party.
The entire party was pink and black and each girl also wore pink and black.
Here is the table where each girl “checked in”
We got these great “Oops” keys from Lowes for FREE! The keychains came from the dollar store. The circles are from the wooden trinket aisle at Hobby Lobby that I spray painted pink and used black vinyl letters for room numbers.
Each girl also got a “suitcase” to hold their goodies.
I took see through shoe box containers from the dollar store and poked two holes in the lid. Then, I threaded pink and black ribbon through the holes and tied them on the underside of the lids to create a handle. I stuffed them with pink tissue paper.

To completely go overboard my mom decided to make a Black Apple doll in each of the girls likeness. They LOVED them. In addition the “suitcases” doubled as doll beds.
We got these cute glasses from the dollar store and wrapped black and white pipe cleaners around the handles as well as pink curling ribbon. They got to take those home as well.
The table was decorated in various pink candies in glass vessels.
A tier of pink treats. Strawberry fig bars, Strawberry wafer cookies, and pink frosted animal cookies.
Petit fours instead of cake.
There was a little nutrition… Peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches cut into heart shapes, strawberries, and Sun Chips. (sunny chips according to P.A.)
I appliqued a zebra print 6 on a pink shirt for Piper Ann and then made her a pink and black tutu to wear over leggings.
Here we are decked out in our pink and black. (My mom was there too and a huge help, but she didn’t want any pictures taken.)
Here she is waiting to greet her guests donning her pink boa.
Bloggy Break
You may have noticed that I’ve been on a little of a bloggy break since Valentine’s Day.
I was commissioned to make some vinyl (yes I said vinyl) cushions for some retro chairs.
Lets just say I won’t be signing up to sew with vinyl in the near future. I’m sure its like childbirth, once you’re away from it for a while you forget how painful it is!
Anyway, I think they turned out pretty well. The sides, cording and bottoms are orange basketball looking vinyl and the tops are Kool Koi, by Waverly outdoor fabric.
The lady said these chairs were probably from a waiting area in a beauty shop.
In these pictures the zippers are in the front and top. They aren’t supposed to be there. I was under the impression that the big cushion went on the back, and the small cushion was for the bottom.
Hopefully it can go that way, or the fish look upside down.
Upside down fish, zippers in back.
Things I Love Thursday
Today I wanted to share with you the way I love how Piper Ann’s table fits in her room.
Here are some not so good pictures.
I had to hurry up and take the pictures because her room was actually clean. Of course, that lasted until she got home from school!
Swap
I finished the beanbags, so I would be sure to get them mailed before Tuesday.
I think they turned out really cute. I especially like the red and purple combo which I thought I would hate.
I’ve made a couple sets of beanbags over the last few months. Piper Ann has been begging me for her own set, but my machine and I will be getting worked on at the same time! We both need a little tune up.
Check out my swap partner Gail at Crafty Little Beana. She’s a fellow Missourian too!
Nutcracker
My blogless friend Deanna took this Nutcracker…
And turned it into this…
I absolutely love the flower on her hat.
I wanted to title this post…”He had the surgery!, or “The hormones are working” but she’s too cute to use crude humor.
17 Days Until Christmas…
…and this is what my living room and dining room look like.
I’m stressing just a smidge!
Hobby Humpday-Piper Ann’s Table
I’ve been wanting to get Piper Ann a table to go with her kitchen for sometime now. So, this year it will be her “big” Christmas gift.
I was inspired by these chairs and this table.
My mom got me this table and chairs from Ikea.
I decoupaged a flower paper to the seat…
Then I decoupaged a striped paper to the backs of the chairs…
Sorry about the bad photos, but I can’t photograph them during the day. Too many eyes with too many questions!
I haven’t put them together yet, because they’re a little more incognito and I can work on them more in the open. They just sort of blend in with the other mess of my sewing room.
Do you have an idea you’d like to share? How about an idea for a handmade holiday? Share your link with me…
Ok, “mr. linky” is not working, so just leave a comment with your link.
My First Custom Order
I had a lady contact me through my Etsy Store who wanted me to reproduce an nostalgic apron from her childhood for her daughters. She also wanted one to match for herself. We added a little custom touch by having initials embroidered on the pockets. They turned out so cute!
Here are some pictures…
This is the one I copied.
Here are the ones I made…
We decided that the moms should be a line instead of gathered. I personally don’t like pleats around my waist!
Just wanted to let you all know that I’ve listed about 20 new items in my store, so check it out. I’m offering my blog readers a 10% rebate that will be refunded through paypal. Make sure you let me know that you read my blog.
Fieldtrip Day
Today Nathan’s class went to the pumpkin patch for a fieldtrip. I couldn’t chaperone, because the little kids couldn’t come.
So, to make up for my absence I had to make him a really special lunch.
I cut the bread with my pumpkin cookie cutter and smeared on some apple butter. He’s decided he doesn’t like cream cheese with his apple butter. He does like peanut butter with it, but his class is peanut free. I swiped the raisins through cream cheese and made a face with them.
I added an apple and apple juice, along with some Trader Joes cheez-its, string cheese, and a cookie.
It had to be in a brown bag, so I embellished. I wrote his name on the stem.
I’m sure my days are numbered getting away with this stuff, because it will be so not cool!
The little kids at home got these…
I just cut one piece of bread each and topped it with American cheese. The raisins were stuck on with peanut butter.
They got to have these to drink. They are made with inverted cane sugar instead of HFCS. I’ll just let you know now that the werewolf candy corn flavor is disgusting. The kids and I tricked Ricardo into trying it.
Hobby Hump Day-Reusable Grocery Bag
I made this bag out of some pieces of fabric I had. I say pieces and not scraps, because they have to be pretty big.
I love this fabric. It was part of my souvenir from Florida.
Here is the back. I have my little tag sewn on! The sides and bottom are orange.
Here’s what it looks like folded. I didn’t have enough of any one fabric to make long enough handles, so I pieced them all together.
Here’s a closeup of the flower on front. Its a little frilly for the grocery store, but I love it.
I’m thinking this along with some of these would make great gifts!
Feel free to play along.
