Things I Love Thursday-Young Rembrandts
Want to show off your kids artwork, or just display it somewhere other than the fridge? There is a new website that acts as an online art gallery for kids. A national after school art program, Young Rembrandts, is celebrating its 20th anniversary and started this at www.drawingacrossamerica.org. Anyone can upload their own artwork or send it snail mail to the address listed on their website. Maybe I’ll submit this picture of Nathan’s!

Things I Love Thursday
Apple butter cream cheese sandwiches.
After all the years of visiting my grandparents in the country this is the first time I’ve ever had apple butter. I didn’t know if I’d like it or not, because I have an aversion to cooked fruit.
I always buy it for the kids and put in on toast.
Eventhough I had no idea what it tasted like, I thought it might be good with cream cheese. Let me tell you, it is. Ricardo has been out of town all week and the kids have been surviving on them all week. They’ve had them for breakfast with a side of yogurt, they’ve had them for lunch with a little piece of banana, and they’ve had them for dinner with a side of a peanut/raisin mixture.
I bought some whole wheat English muffins today, so I could fancy them up for breakfast while my MIL is here this weekend.
Maybe my friend Nicole will share her crockpot recipe for apple butter, and then my friend Jen will show you how to can it.
My next fall experiment will be making pumpkin and applesauce doughnuts. We used to go to an orchard in Michigan that had the best and I’ve been craving them ever since. I’ll let you know how they turn out.
Things I Love Thursday-Blood Orange Martinis
I admit there are few adult beverages that I don’t love, but this one is pretty new to me and its delicious.
1oz of Blood Orange Juice ( I buy the soda from Trader Joes. I like fizz. I’ve also seen it at World Market.)
1oz of Triple Sec
1oz of vodka ( I use plain, but orange flavored would be good too!)
squeeze of lime
Shake it up with ice and pour into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lime twist.

Things I Love Thursday-Old Stuff
I love old stuff (which drives Ricardo crazy!). I would rather have something old than something new (maybe thats why Ricardo is 6 years older than me! he he).
In my house full of furniture only 16 things have been bought brand new. Even my kitchen Island was used! We just wrapped it in beaded board and painted it to match the cabinets and voila!
We’ve been living in this house for almost 18 mos without a dining room table. I didn’t want to settle for just any “new” table ( I would have loved one from Pottery Barn, but Its a little out of my price range!), so you can imagine my excitement when I came across this…Its a round pedestal table that measures 48 inches across. It has 3 leaves, so it extends up to 7 feet long. I’m thinking of painting it white. I have 4 of these chairs
to go with it and am hoping to find some chairs like this
for the ends of the table.
I like to mix some modern with traditional.
I’ll keep you posted on the finish product.

Things I Love Thursday-Archer Farms
If you’re unaware, this is Target’s specialty food line.
My kids love their fruit leather that is actually made with fruit. They were on sale this week 2 for $5. We got 20 organic fruit leathers, that I told my kids were fruit roll ups, for $5. Not bad.
Things I Love Thursday-Napa Cabbage
We had dinner at some friends house a while ago and had tacos. Instead of lettuce, they offered Napa cabbage as a condiment. This isn’t the first time I’ve had cabbage on tacos before, but never Napa cabbage.
This is my favorite taco recipe.
I also plan to make this tonight. It has a Napa cabbage salad as a side.

Things I Love Thursday- Pegboard
I’m back after 3 days with no kids and a quick, but fun jaunt up to Michigan.
In a previous post, I wrote about hanging cabinets for my craft area.
My newest addition is a pegboard which takes up the entire span of wall between the cabinets and table.
I love it. I get really excited when I find something new to hang on it. I still have a bunch of empty hooks.
I will write more about my new craft area soon. Its a mess right now, because I’ve been busy creating.

Things I Love Thursday-Heartland Pasta
I discovered this pasta at the grocery store. It was an impulse buy that the kids just had to have.
It comes in 3 different Disney designs, its made with whole grains, and it was on sale for $.99.
There are also some kid friendly recipes on the back of the boxes.

Things I Love Thursday-Fronut
Fronut?
Its the most delicious ice cream ever from Fritz’s Frozen Custard in Valley Park.
It starts with vanilla frozen custard. Then its topped off with pretzels, chocolate shell, and then drizzled with caramel.
It got the name “Fronut,” because it tastes just like an Entenmann’s chocolate glazed donut.
We make these at home, but use french vanilla ice cream instead of custard. Its not as good, but still delicious.
I won’t be having one of these for a while, because we’re going to Michigan in a few weeks to visit friends who have all been working out religiously. I’ll have 6 when we get back.

Things I Love Thursday-1800 Ultimate Margarita Mix
My friend Deanna turned us on to this. It is seriously the best margarita mix ever. I think its so good because there is a hint of orange in it, so you’re tricked into thinking your drinking a golden margarita. Just add tequila and serve. Its awesome.
