Chenille Carrot Tutorial

Here’s what you need:

-8 1/2 x11 sheet of paper or cardstock

-scissors

-wood skewer

-orange chenille fabric (any orange fabric will work. I thought the nubbyness of this was adorable. It was an old blanket and I dyed a section of it)

-needle and thread

-stuffing

-green felt

-glue gun

Make your pattern by drawing a triangle on your sheet of paper. Mark a point halfway across the bottom of the paper and draw a line from the top corners meeting at that point.

Fold triangle in half and round off the corner on the open end with scissors.

Pin pattern to fabric and cut out.

Your piece will look like this.

Fold in half and stitch down the open end.

Turn inside out and use blunt end of the wooden skewer to push the point out.

Stuff carrot really full using skewer to push stuffing into the point.

Baste stitch around the opening. Make sure to leave two long tails.

Pull tails tight and tie in a knot.

Now your carrot is closed.

Cut a 2 to 2 1/2 inch in diameter circle out of green felt.

Fold in half and cut a little slit in the center.

Notch out the sides of the circle to represent leaves.

Out of the green felt cut a 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 rectangle. Cut strips every 1/4 inch, but leave a 1/4″ border at the bottom.

Roll it up and put some hot glue at the end to secure it.

This is what you should end up with.

Stick the “sprout” through the slit in the green circle.

Put an ample amount of hot glue on the underside.

Stick it to the top of the carrot making sure to cover up the opening.

Before you know it, you’ll have a full basket.
