Works For Me Wednesday- Flower Frog Pen Holder

Instead of using my vintage flower frog for floral arrangements. I use it to hold pens, pencils and paint brushes.

There are other things you could do with it too. For example you could put foam on the inside and stick suckers in it.
Ebay would be a great place to find these.

Hobby Hump Day- Travel Pouch

We leave for Florida on Thursday. I made this little pouch in which to put my wallet, maybe a lip gloss, and other essentials from my purse. That way I can take it from backpack, to beach bag. It has a strap so I can wear it on my wrist or hook in on a stroller.

Of course, I love cherries!

Now its your turn to play.

This is My House

We had Nathan’s conference this morning. His teacher showed us a packet of pictures that he drew about himself. This is his portrayal of our house…

Great. Our house isn’t that messy and chaotic!

Busy Weekend

I made these for my sister. She’s a senior and its her final homecoming!

This is a headband I made for her. Yes, we were fortunate enough to go to a high school with orange and brown as its colors!

She’s a rockstar volleyball player, so I made her this bag with her number on it.Here’s a closeup of the applique.

A really good friend of mine has been doing some graphic design work for me, so I can get my etsy store up and running.

To thank her, I made these. (Hopefully she doesn’t read this before she gets them!)

Here’s a closeup of the square.Heres a closeup of the little pouch. Its fully lined with green fabric. Here is her website.

Things I Love Thursday-Blood Orange Martinis

I admit there are few adult beverages that I don’t love, but this one is pretty new to me and its delicious.
1oz of Blood Orange Juice ( I buy the soda from Trader Joes. I like fizz. I’ve also seen it at World Market.)
1oz of Triple Sec
1oz of vodka ( I use plain, but orange flavored would be good too!)
squeeze of lime
Shake it up with ice and pour into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lime twist.

Works for Me Wednesday-Eating at a Wedding

As you know we’re going to a wedding next weekend.
My tip today is all about your water glass and bread plate. When you sit down at a table of 8 or 10, sometimes our “miss manners” escape us and we forget which plate and water glass are ours.
Here’s a way to remember make a “b” with your left hand and a “d” with your right hand. “B” stands for bread, so its on the left and “d” stands for drink, so its on your right.
You’ll thank me later when you don’t accidentally drink “sweaty dancer guy’s” water.

Hobby Hump Day- Wedding Present

I’m putting this up early today, because Ricardo is at the gym and I have the whole TV to myself. The Big Brother finale is on tonight. I know, loser.

Anyway, my cousin is getting married next week, and I did a handmade gift. I will probably also throw in a check, too.

I’m not one to buy things off of a registry. I like to buy them something more meaningful.

Anyway here’s what I came up with…

Here is an apron I made. I’m doing a lemon theme because I loved the fabric and its a Florida wedding. The high waist band acts as a girdle!

The bride will also be able to set her table with these beautiful placemats…

Their tables will be protected from sweaty glasses with these coasters…What do you think? Would you like to get these as a gift or would you rather have a china set that you will use once a year?

I’m adding some pictures that my blogless friend Deanna sent me.

Here’s a cape she made for her son. I made some for Valentine’s day for my kids, but they’re definitely not as cool!
Here are a couple skirts she made for her daughter. It looks as though this one is made out of shirt sleeves. How cool! The buttons are already sewn on for you! Its fabulous.
This skirt is made out of an old pair of jeans…

If you have an idea you want to share and don’t have a blog, leave me a comment and I can post them for you.

Its Not A Full Moon

I checked.

This is how my day is going and its only 1pm…

*Only got in an 11 minute work out because Oliver has decided in the last month he cannot be without me.\

*While running errands instead of working out Piper Ann announces that Oliver ate a penny. Oh great, I’m going to have to pay $20 to have the doctor tell me to sift through his po*p.

*After penny was swallowed, Oliver unbuckled himself and got out of his carseat as we were driving down the highway. I couldn’t pull over anywhere.

*As I was waiting in the driveway for Nathan to get off the bus, a Terminix guy who was working next door informed me we have major carpenter ant infestation. Luckily he sprayed us down on the DL and I slipped him some cash. Unluckily, the only way to get rid of them is to rip out all of our landscaping rocks and bushes touching the deck. Well, its unlucky for Ricardo since I’ve been wanting to get rid of those 2 things since we moved in (they’re not pretty). He’s been insistent on keeping them.

We’re off to the in-laws this weekend!

Things I Love Thursday-Old Stuff

I love old stuff (which drives Ricardo crazy!). I would rather have something old than something new (maybe thats why Ricardo is 6 years older than me! he he).

In my house full of furniture only 16 things have been bought brand new. Even my kitchen Island was used! We just wrapped it in beaded board and painted it to match the cabinets and voila!

We’ve been living in this house for almost 18 mos without a dining room table. I didn’t want to settle for just any “new” table ( I would have loved one from Pottery Barn, but Its a little out of my price range!), so you can imagine my excitement when I came across this…Its a round pedestal table that measures 48 inches across. It has 3 leaves, so it extends up to 7 feet long. I’m thinking of painting it white. I have 4 of these chairs to go with it and am hoping to find some chairs like this for the ends of the table.

I like to mix some modern with traditional.

I’ll keep you posted on the finish product.
